The phenomenon of electrophoresis is descriptively elucidated in this comprehensive book. Electrophoresis is the movement of electrically charged particles in a direct current electric field. Electrophoretic separation depends on differential rate of migration in the bulk of the liquid phase and has no concern with reactions occurring at the electrodes.
